This tool scores sounds, beats, and smoothness for ReST therapy.
The results can be downloaded or shared as a PDF.
For client privacy reasons, end-of-treatment block data collation is not available with this tool.
1. Before you start
To add your list of 20 target words, the tool requires:
- One word per row
- Syllables separated with hyphens or commas
- The stressed syllable capitalised to mark the beat target
- Words written orthographically, as the tool does not support IPA
It is recommended you keep your list of words saved for your reference.
Example: SEE-yi-tha - Three syllables, with the first syllable stressed.
| Input | What it means |
|---|---|
SEE-yi-tha |
Three syllables, with the first syllable stressed. |
2. Set up a session
Enter a session name
Use the session or client name at the top of the start screen. This is what the saved progress and the final report will be labelled with.
Enter the student name
This appears on the final report and in saved progress. It is also useful if you are providing therapy to several clients at once.
Load the word list
Upload a CSV, Excel file, TSV, or plain text list. You can also paste syllable-separated words directly into the tool.
Check the preview
The preview shows the orthographic full word and the syllables that were parsed. Use it to catch formatting issues before starting the test.
3. Score each word
The test runs across five sets. For each word, choose one of two outcomes:
For incorrect words
Sounds errors
Tick the syllables that were wrong and type the client’s error.
Beat errors
The expected beat in the word is ticked by default. Untick if the syllable is not stressed. Tick any syllables that are stressed instead or as well.
Smoothness errors
Tick whether the word is not smooth.
4. Read the results
- Word-by-word results - One row per word showing sound accuracy, beat accuracy, and smoothness.
- Syllable position analysis - How the first, second, and third syllables performed across the whole test.
- Sound analysis - Every syllable grouped by sound so you can spot recurring problem sounds.
- Beat scoring - Words with beat mistakes, ordered by most errors.
- Smoothness - Words broken by stutters or stops between syllables, sorted by order of errors.
5. Export and share
Use Download PDF to generate a report for filing or printing. Use Share PDF if you want to send the report directly from a device that supports file sharing.
6. Save and resume
Each session is stored locally in the browser by session name.
If you do not complete a session during your allotted appointment time, you can resume the session from the start screen, provided you are using the same device.
To avoid confusion, keep the session name unique per client or test.
If you need to remove a saved session, use the trash button next to the saved-session picker.
